App 4 – Agenda Item 65.26 Delaine Bus Email

Further to your enquiry regarding the westbound Bus Stop on Spalding Road/Broadgate Lane.

Historically the westbound stop was where the shelter is located, however following the enhancement of our 301 service a number of years ago which now operates hourly between Spalding and Stamford, it attracted more ridership. I recall we received a request from the Parish Council following requests from residents of the Broadgate Lane estate for the westbound stop to be located closer to the junction as this is where the vast majority of passengers using this stop originate from as it was a considerable distance from the junction.

We supported this proposal and Lincolnshire Highways installed a pole and we then affixed a flag and timetable case. We had assumed the shelter would be moved accordingly for the convenience of passengers, but this never materialised and consequently we have the bizarre situation of a redundant shelter being located some distance from the bus stop.

I can only surmise that Lincolnshire carried out the groundworks as requested, but as you rightly say as the shelter belongs to the Parish Council, the two jobs never got correlated.

I can confirm we would fully support the re-locating of the shelter to the bus stop for the benefit of bus users from this area.

In respect of our phone system, sadly due to the volume of abusive calls we installed a call management system to take timetable and fares enquires with everything else needing to be put in writing. I am happy to speak with you directly when matters arise and you can contact me on the office number at extension 203. But please do not share this with the wider public.

I hope this explains the background of this matter and happy to speak with you further if you wish.

Kind Regards

Managing Director
